Black Coffee

September 15th, 2007

I’ve got a new remix. It’s called “Black Coffee“. Check it out.

I was intending to post this on ccmixter, as I downloaded the vocal track from there a while back, but since I downloaded it, there were some publishing issues with it and it got pulled from the site. So this particular remix may or may not include source material from hemeleen aka Helene. It does include moaning i lifted from one of Songboy’s tracks on ccmixter. It was originally written in 1948.

A Flurry of Activity

August 26th, 2007

It’s funny how inspired one becomes after having their ability to create music compromised by a broken pair of headphones. My old pair literally spent thousands of hours on top of my head, and they are by far the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever owned. So I bought another pair and went straight to work.

I’ve got another Jay-Z remix wrapped up for my zzmixter project. This one features 4nsic trading flow with Jay, backing mix by me. A public service announcement about what is hip hop.

I’ve also got a remix by Calendar Girl, whose stuff I’m just discovering to be very good. I’m a bit late on July, but I intend to try to work a couple more months in there at some point.

I also threw together a little mix called Taking My Place, which features vocals by Etherdust, beats by Pat Chilla, and cello and synth by rjmarshall, all featured artists from ccmixter.

Finally, I did a couple of mixes which feature Frank H. Carter III, a very talented vocalist from ccmixter. Check out both Magic and Crazy Love, with vocals by FHCIII and backing music by me.

Worked Out Fine

July 29th, 2007

Magnatune has just released a new double remix album of Brad Sucks “I Don’t Know What I’m Doing”, and my remix of his song “Work Out Fine” made the final cut. Check out a full stream by clicking the image above.

Part of “I Don’t Know What I’m Doing Either“, my remix of Brad’s first CD.

What More Can I Say?

July 7th, 2007

New Jay-Z remix. My backing mix under his acappella vocal track for “What More Can I Say”. I sliced his vocals up slightly to try to better fit the beat. This one was kind of challenging because the chorus vocals were part of the vocal track so I couldn’t separate them out from Jay’s vocals. Oh well, you work with what you got.

zzMixter

June 16th, 2007

A couple weeks ago, I was killing time in the local record store when what should find my eye but a $7.99 copy of Jay-Z’s “Black Album Acappella” CD. Needless to say I was on it like stink on shit.

As I pondered the endless possibilities, my best idea kept coming back to ccmixter. As tempting as it might be to pull a Dangermouse and mash something popular and commercial, Jay-Z is already popular and commercial, so why not use his celebrity and interest to generate more interest for folks deserving of it, like fourstones, who put together a pretty fabulous “Funk Construction Kit” of samples over on the mixter that makes up the bulk of the this backing mix.

Changed Clothes - (fourstones vs. Jay-Z)

with vocal contributions by J.Lang & Crew

I think I’m going to begin working on a new project I’m calling “zz mixter”, which will combine acappella tracks from Jay-Z’s “Black Album” with source tracks available from ccmixter.

This project is not endorsed by Creative Commons or ccmixter.

Remix Nine Inch Nails

Year Zero

Trent Reznor and crew prove once again how truly cool and innovative they are by releasing various source tracks from their brand new CD “Year Zero” that hasn’t been out even a month yet. You can download the source tracks in various formats from the NIN website, or you can also get the source for “Me, I’m Not” over on Remixfight, where i’m hoping a bunch of like minded folks are going to toss a little virtual listening party of new remixes for this excellent new tune. I’ve got mine pretty much wrapped up, and I have to say the source tracks for this is excellent.  Download the tracks and toss yourself a little Reznor salad and meet me over on remixfight!

Off break. Sort of.

June 11th, 2007

I created a new tune/mix for the upcoming Songfight. Challenged to do something with a “strong, dancable rhythm”, my MC Jack persona took over on this one. Sugar Shaker features a short clip from KCentric, from the ccmixter community. The rest of the backing mix and vocals are a combination of loops and live tracks by me.

I’ve also got another new mix over on Remixfight. Kind of a last minute thing I wanted to do as my buddy Ken is the drummer. You can hear it here.

Finally, I just want to mention that next up on Remixfight will be one of the new Nine Inch Nails songs, “Me I’m Not”, which they’ve just released the source tracks for with no licensing restrictions. Since this is Nine Inch Nails, I’m sure the source for this will be outstanding so go download the source for this here and submit a remix.

On Break

May 27th, 2007

I’ve been on kind of an extended hiatus from remixing lately, partly from a lack of inspiration, partly because i’ve just been pretty busy with life in general, and partly because i’ve been trying to concentrate a little more on songwriting and live recording. I haven’t abandoned it, just taking a well earned rest in the hopes that i can come back juiced with some new ideas about stuff.

I did manage to squeeze in a remix on the current Remixfight though. “Music Ruined Video Games” is a remix of an original song by Shael Riley.
